I have been playing Hammond Organ for 35 years. I was taught by UK jazz organist, Roy Cotterill in Wigan, Lancashire in the early 80's.
The style requires a dedicated left foot to play a set of bass pedals much like the ones seen in Churches. The left hand generally
plays the accompaniment on the lower keyboard manual whilst the right hand plays lead on the upper manual.
I am influenced by the Hammond B3 giants, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Big John Patton and Shirley Scott amongst many others and consider myself a purist in that I insist on a real Leslie speaker and a genuine vintage Hammond organ to achieve the most authentic warm and crunchy Hammond sounds available when playing live.
I studied an honours music degree at Bretton Hall University of Leeds and then went on to gain a teaching certificate which I used within a Primary school for 12 years.
If you are interested in learning to play this magnificent King of instruments, call me to discuss one to one lessons or pre-arranged group workshops.
